Trekking To Ethnic Mountain Villages - Private Tour

What To Expect

By joining this tour, you will trek to visit ethnic mountain village such as Ban Houay Fai, Lao Loum, Lao Theung, etc. Upon the water seasons, activities in the tour will be designed suitably and safely. During high water season, you can visit Tad Sae Waterfall and soak in it. Alternatively, in low water season, you will visit a riverside village on the bank of Nam Khan River before returning to Luang Prabang.



Description

High water season (August to January)
In the morning, we meet you at your hotel and start our tour. We begin by trekking two hours through rice paddies, middle canopy and steep slopes to a Khmu village, Ban Houay Fai. Passing limestone grottos and rocky slopes, you arrive at Hmong Village – Ban Tinpha. Here you will have lunch and take a short rest. After that, we continue by visiting Lao Loum, Lao Theung and Lao Sung village. You then enjoy a boat trip on Nam Khan River to Tad Sae Waterfall, where you can relax and soak before returning by boat. Arrive at boat station, our driver will take you back to your hotel in Luang Prabang. End trip/

Riding To Luang Prabang Countryside - Private Tour

What To Expect

Riding through rice paddies and forests, we take you to visit Wat Pa Phon Phao temple and Ban Phanom village. In the village you have the chance to learn traditional hand-weaving skills. In addition, when we arrive at Ban Ann pier, you will have a boat trip along Kharn River to elephant camp. An unique and fun trip to explore the countryside around Luang Prabang.



Description

From 8:30am, we will meet you at your hotel. After picking your bike, we leave Luang Prabang for natural and remote areas. Our first stop is Wat Pa Phon Phao – a forest temple famous for the teachings of Ajahn Saisamut. This large golden stupa contains three inside levels plush an outside terrace with a view into the countryside and Luang Prabang. The inside walls are painted with many Buddhist stories and moral admonitions.
After that, we will go to Ban Phanom – a village of Thai Lue people (a tribe with its origins in Southern China). It is well known for cotton and silk hand-weaving. Here you have the opportunity to learn how to make the traditional Lao Cotton on a weaving loom. The dirt road will bring us through teakwood plantations and rice fields up the Nam Khan Valley. We will pass the tomb of Henry Mouhot – the French explorer who showed Angkor Wat to the world. Henry Mouhot perished of malaria in 1861 in Luang Prabang.
 We then continue our bike adventure through rice paddies and forests before we arrive at Ban Ann pier and take a long trail boat along Kharn River to Tadsae Elephnat Camp. Upon arrival, you will enjoy elephant ride about 30 minutes to the jungle nearby. Around 12:00pm, you will have lunch and relax or even take a swim. After that, we return to Ban Ann pier and ride back to town.
End trip at your hotel.

Description

High water season (August to January):
Day 01 Mountain bike and trek your way to your Khmu village homestay (L, D)
We meet you at your hotel in Luang Prabang and move to take bikes. Our first stop is at Wat Pa Phon Phao, as known as golden stupa temple. We then visit Ban Phanom – a well-known cotton and silk hand-weaving village. Next we visit the grave of Henri Mouhot – the French explorer who popularized Angko Wat of Cambodia. After that, we ride to the bank of Nam Khan River. We will stop for a break to take in the grandeur of a view to jungle and a towering rock face. You will have lunch here before crossing the river by boat and hiking to a traversing rice paddy fields and terraced slope toward a peaceful village.
In the afternoon, we arrive at beautiful Ban Houay Nok – a Khmu village nested into the foothill of a steep, jungle-covered mountain. This night you will stay here in local homestay.
Day 02 Full day big jungle trek to Hmong and Khmu villages and homestay (B, L, D)
After breakfast, we start trekking on one of the most spectacular trails in this area. We trek through karst and limestone mountains as local people do. We will visit Hmong village on a lake along our way. Coming here, you can learn more about the various traditional aspects of the minority cultures of Hmong and Khmu tribes. In the late afternoon, we arrive at the village where you will stay overnight. Enjoy the time here.
Day 03 Trek, Waterfall, Elephants, and Kayaking (L, D)
After breakfast, we descent the mountain to reach Tad Sae Waterfall. Coming here you can relax and go swimming in the cool water. You will experience elephant ride through the jungle and even bather them in the waterfall. Lunch will be served at the fall.
In the afternoon, you take a small boat downriver to kayak station. Our manager welcome you and provide you with safety check and kayaking skills. After that, you start kayaking along Nam Khan River. You will see from your kayak the countryside with banana, teak trees, rice paddies and terrace pineapple plantations. After that, we transfer back to your hotel in Luang Prabang. End trip.



Low water season (February to July):
During the low water season, Tad Sae Waterfall is dry and the water level in Nam Khan River is low as well. Therefore, there are some changes in the itinerary as follow:
Day 1
We will enjoy an extended 20 Km bike ride that takes us up and down some dirt hills and through rice paddies and villages with a small river crossing by bike.
Day 2
The second day is the same as above.
Day 3
If the Tad Sae is too dry we’ll skip the visit. Instead of it, we take a similar trail out of the mountains to the Nam Khan River. You’ll ride elephants at the adjacent and impressive Elephant Village camp then join us again to start kayaking 11 Km with some small rapids before picking up and returning to Luang Prabang.

Nam Khan River Valley Adventure - Full Day Trekking And Kayaking - Private Tour

This tour combines two popular activities of tourists visiting Luang Prabang: trekking and kayaking. You will have the chance to explore the natural side of Luang Prabang with an amazing trek through spectacular landscapes visiting Khmu hill-tribe villages, and a kayaking trip on Nam Khan River. Description

In the morning, we pick you up at your hotel in Luang Prabang and depart to the bank of Nam Khan River. We then take a boat crossing the river and start our trekking tour through jungle, forest, bamboo, paddy fields and streams. Our destination is a small village of Khmu people at the base of limestone mountains. We will visit around the village to admire beautiful bamboo weaved houses and meet friendly locals. Don’t hesitate to talk with them with the help of your guide.
After exploring the Khmu village, we continue hiking to Tad Sae Waterfall. It’s an interesting place with different beauties upon the water seasons. Here you also can enjoy a refreshing swim and explore surrounding area. From the waterfall, we take a boat trip to boat station and start our kayak adventure downward Nam Khan River. For safety purpose, we will have a short review about kayaking skills before we start. You will enjoy an exciting river journey through beautiful Nam Khan River valley and through lush jungle. Along the river, you also can observe locals engaged in daily activities on the river. One thing to note: kayaking conditions vary between easy to medium and total time is approximately 2 hours depending on river conditions. We finish our tour in the late afternoon. Our driver take you back to your hotel in Luang Prabang. End trip.

Please Note

  • In the low water season (from February to July), Tad Sae Waterfall is dry and so we will not visit. Instead of it, while kayaking you may stop on the many white sand beaches to relax, swim and explore and we’ll visit the famous Henri Mouhot’s resting site accessible from the river.


Pak Ou Caves - Private Tour

What To Expect

One of the most respected holy sites in Laos, Pak Ou Caves have a history dating back thousands of years. Packed with over 4,000 Buddha icons, the caves – a shrine to the river spirit and Lord Buddha – a set in a dramatic limestone cliff at the point where the Mekong joins the Nam Ou River. Pak Ou means “mouth of the Ou River’ with the first cave entrance of Tham Ting being very visible from the water; the higher cave is accessed by stairs. The Buddha images in the Pak Ou Caves assume a variety of positions, from meditation to peace and nirvana (the reclining Buddha). Both caves are shrines to Buddha, offering places of worship with the largest image in Tham Ting being a popular place to burn incense and offer prayers. The smaller cave is the more peaceful, with glimpses of the Mekong providing a breathtaking backdrop.

Along the way, we stop at the village of Ban Xanghai. It’s well know with skills of rice wine distillation. In the morning, we meet you at your hotel. After getting your bike, we lead you along backroads to see Wat Pa Phon Phao – a golden temple with a great view of Luang Prabang. Continue riding along the bank of Nam Khan River, we go to visit the grave of Henri Mouhot – the French explorer who popularized the Angkor Complex in Cambodia.
Finishing the 15km ride, we stop to have a picnic lunch and relax. After that, a short boat ride will bring us to Tad Sae Waterfall for a refreshing swim under jungle canopy. We then move to kayaking center. Here you will be provided a brief kayaking instruction and safety review and start kayaking downward Nam Khan River. During the rainy season, the water level is high and moves at a nice pace through lush jungle countryside. After kayaking of 20km, we will wrap up just under the Luang Prabang city bridge. From here you take our truck returning to your hotel in Luang Prabang.

 In the low water season, the itinerary is the same with the following exceptions to give you the best experience possible.
We’ll take a slightly different bike route that includes Wat Pa Phon Phao, some unpaved riding with some fun hills, and a river crossing by boat with the bikes.

In the morning, we meet you at your hotel and move to take your bike at our shop in Luang Prabang. After that, we start riding along Mekong River down to Kuang Si Waterfall. On the way, we will stop to explore villages and Hmong Culture Museum. After riding about 3 – 4 hours, you arrive at the surrounding area of Kuang Si Waterfall. From here you walk to the waterfall and admire its spectacular beauty and have lunch served by us here. There are small private changing rooms nearby where you can change into your swimming suit. You can also see the numerous Asiatic bears at the Bear Rescue Centre along the jungle walk to the waterfall. After enjoy exciting time at the falls, we walk back to get our bikes for fun downhill ride to Mekong River. Here you board a long-tail boat for about 2 hours cruising back to Luang Prabang. You’ll ride the short distance to the bike shop. After turn back the bikes, we drive to drop you off at your hotel. End trip.
