Kayaking On Nam Ou River - Full Day Tour - Private Tour

What To Expect

This is the tour for anyone looking for a day of kayaking with exciting whitewater sections. The Nam Ou River is the largest local tributary to the mighty Mekong River near Luang Prabang and generally offers the most exciting kayaking for strong swimmers and those with some kayaking experience. Join us for an exciting day paddling through jungle-covered mountains. Will top it off with a visit to the popular “Whiskey Village” to explore local village life and sample some village-made Lao Lao Whiskey.

Description

High water season (August to January):
In the morning, we will pick you up at your hotel in Luang Prabang and depart to Ban Houay Leuang – a village on the bank of Nam Ou River. We will start kayaking on Nam Ou River, through spectacular mountains covered with jungle and traditional riverside villages of Hmong and Khmu people. Water conditions varies widely with the season and water levels. Generally, you can expect approximately 2 – 3 hours kayaking with numerous sections of rapids suitable for confident swimmers with some experience kayaking. Our total kayaking distance is about 15km. You will have a picnic lunch on the riverbanks. And our kayak will finish at Ban Pha Teung (village). We’ll wrap up the day with a visit on return drive to the “Whiskey Village’’ – a Mekong riverside village which is famous for its rice whiskey. After that we continue driving back to Luang Prabang. End trip at your hotel.
Low water season, February to July:
In this period, the itinerary is the same except the kayaking is extended to the Nam Ou Bridge for 21 km (13 mi) medium kayaking normally taking approximately 4-5 hours. The kayaking gets a little more exciting and technical as there are more exposed rocks.
